Lorcana Demo Cards

What are Lorcana ‘Demo’ Cards?

Disney Lorcana ‘Demo’ cards are special event cards first introduced on April 24, 2023, at the Game Manufacturers Association (GAMA) Expo, held at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, Nevada. This marked the debut of the English Demo Cards, which were found in demonstration decks used to teach attendees how to play.

These cards are standard The First Chapter cards, but with “DEMO” printed on the back near the bottom. They have been produced in both English and French. While the first public sighting of the French Demo Cards has not yet been verified, Lorcana did appear at three major European events in 2023: the London Toy Fair, the Nuremberg Toy Fair, and Gamescom.

Although Demo Cards were meant solely for use during these demonstrations, many eventually made their way into the secondary market and into collectors’ binders, making them a unique and highly sought-after piece of Lorcana history. While collectors and players love to have a piece of Lorcana history, some people frown upon them as many were likely stolen from the shows and not returned as intended.

Which Cards Have ‘Demo’ Versions?

At GAMA Expo 2023, the Lorcana and Ravensburger teams allowed attendees to play with their choice of two 40-card demo decks. These 40-card demo decks were modified versions of The First Chapter Starter Deck Amber & Amethyst and The First Chapter Start Deck Sapphire & Steel, which are notably 60-cards each, in order to keep the games moving quickly.

Another modified rule for the event was that players could win with only 10 lore, which normally you need 20 to win.

Lastly, there have been a few Demo Discard Fillers which have been graded. These would not have come from the events and most likely from playtesters or employees at the Ravensburger, Disney, or their printing partners.

Rarity and Price

Rarity

While these should be fairly rare do to their nature of being intentionally only used for the demonstration events, there have been numerous decks and/or individual cards that have made it into the secondary market.

*These numbers could include cards that have been resent in for grading and their ‘old’ population numbers not getting pulled. While this isn’t a very common occurrence, this does happen.

Currently only PSA and CGC are grading Demo cards.

Price

Demo cards are very much a collectors item, however based on the ample number of cards on the market, the costs have been coming down since they were first released. As of August 2025, raw (non-graded) ‘Demo’ cards can range from $75-$200. Graded, depending on the card, can go for more. While there are no set prices for these, they typically do well at auction as they are still a sought after collectors item.
