Where and How to Buy/Sell Lorcana Misprints

This article is your resource for buying/selling Lorcana misprints and hopefully provide you with a couple tips along the way.

How to Determine Price

When people discover an error or oddity on a card, the first two questions they usually ask are:
“Is this an error?” and “How much is it worth?”

Because of their unique nature, misprints and oddities usually don’t have a fixed price. While it’s a running joke, the honest answer is: a misprint is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

The one exception is fillers (explained below).

How to Estimate Value

The best ways to determine what your misprint might be worth are:

  • Search sales history: Check Facebook groups or eBay listings to see if similar errors have sold before, and for how much.

  • Auction it: Putting a card up for auction often reveals its true market value.

The Filler Exception

Fillers are a bit different from other misprints. Some are fairly common, and you can easily find past sales data to guide pricing. In those cases, just price according to the market.

However, rare fillers should still be auctioned, since demand and price can vary widely.

Later in this guide, we’ll cover where to sell, how to run an auction, and common pitfalls to avoid.

Buying and Selling Misprints

Where to Buy/Sell

Misprints are a niche corner of the Lorcana community, so it helps to know where collectors and sellers spend their time.

Right now, the best place is Facebook. Several buy/sell/trade (BST) groups exist, but the largest and most active is:
Lorcana TCG Misprints, Oddities, Errors - Buy/Sell/Trade (BST) + Discussion

This group predates the official launch of the game and has a lot of historical posts and insights.

You can also find plenty of misprints on eBay, which remains a solid selling platform.

Facebook vs. eBay for Buying & Selling

Facebook

  • Easier to interact with the community.

  • Lower seller fees (we’ll cover this more later).

  • Auctions can include “anti-snipe” rules, which help sellers get full value and keep auctions fair for buyers.

  • Slightly riskier for buyers compared to eBay.

eBay

  • Very buyer-friendly process and protections.

  • Wider potential audience, although the most active Lorcana misprint collectors are currently on Facebook.

  • Higher seller fees, but also more seller tools.

How to Sell

Highlighting the Error

When listing a card for sale:

  • Take clear photos: Photograph cards outside of sleeves/cases in natural daylight. Make sure the error is easy to see and in focus.

  • Show all cards: If selling a group, include clear images of each card.

  • Describe the error: Even if it seems obvious, write a clear description. This helps buyers understand what they’re looking at, and it also makes your listing easier to find when people search for similar errors.

Facebook Sales Template

Mentioned above, auctioning cards is the best way to determine their market value. Below there is a template that can be copied and pasted . Read the HELPFUL TIPS section below for additional helpful information.

As with everything online, assume there is always risk. The below is just a template to use and in no-way guarantees that you will be free from scams or any other malicious activity. MisprintedLore is not responsible for any transaction that you are involved in. Always be cautious when buying and selling online

Helpful Tips

🌟Auction creator tips:🌟
.............................
📸 Clear Pictures:
-- Take clear pictures of the fronts and backs of cards.
...........................
🆕Auction Structure:
-- If auctioning multiple cards, post individual pictures as main comments to your post.
-- Bidding will happen as replies to your comment.
-- See the first reply to this comment with a link to a past auction.
.............................
⏰Timing/Duration:
-- Update the end time with Date, Time and Timezone.
-- Most auctions run 3-4 days.
— while this is a global group, most members are in the US, so try not to have your auction end on a US holiday as some people may be busy.
..............................
👍 Liking Bids:
-- FB is notorious for not notifying people when comments are made on posts.
-- Only like bids that get outbid to notify the person that their bid was outbid.
.............................
⛔️Antisnipe:
-- It's recommended to have an Antisnipe on all auctions.
-- this ensures that there is a fair bidding process and you get the most for the card.
-- Yes, antisnipes may delay the closing of the auction, but it is the best process.
-- Another way to think of an antisnipe is "at the end of an auction, the high bid needs to stand for X hours. If a bid is made during that period, the auction's end moves out X hours until the final bid has stood for that period of time."
...............................
🔥Reserves:
-- Not all auctions need reserves, but please set one of you have a min amount you will accept/want to get.
-- These should not be private. Transparency is key. If you would like to have it be private for whatever reason, please pm an admin and share what your reserve is.
-- Reserves are the price the auction needs to get to for you to sell.
.................................
📦 Shipping:
-- Please note if you only ship within your country, or to other countries as this is a global group.
-- It's important to list shipping costs so buyers factor that in.
...............................
💵 Payments:
-- Most transactions happen with Paypal and with the "Goods and Services" payment method as it offers a buyer protection.
-- Please list all methods of payment, but be understanding that online transactions carry risk so buyers will be more likely to buy if they can do Goods and Services via paypal.
-- Some people may be willing to pay with Paypal "Friends and Family" which is what you would use to transfer money to people you know. There is no way to get that money back and no buyer protection, so buyers will usually not do this option unless they trust you. Scammers push people to pay with F&F because there is no recourse, so this is why it is not the preferred way to pay for buyers.
...............................
✋ Reaching Out/Finishing Sale:
-- It's important to reach out quickly at the end of the sale.
-- summarize the cards that the buyer has won.

Risks & Pitfalls to Avoid

Whenever you buy or sell online (or even in person), there are always risks. The good news is that most of these risks can be avoided with a little caution and some best practices.

When Buying

Payments

Rule #1: Always use a payment method that protects you.
If something goes wrong, you’ll want the option to file a claim and get your money back. For example:

  • PayPal Goods & Services offers strong buyer protection.

  • Some other services (like Venmo, depending on your account) may offer limited protection, but not always.

🚫 Never send payments as “Friends & Family,” “Gift,” or similar methods (PayPal Friends & Family, Venmo Gift, CashApp, Zelle, Facebook Messenger, etc.). These are treated as cash: once you send it, it’s gone. If the seller disappears, you have no recourse.

Checking the Seller’s Profile (on Facebook)

Before buying, do a quick background check:

  • Look at their profile: Does it look brand new or empty (no photos, friends, or activity)? That’s a red flag.

  • Check the URL: On mobile, open their profile, tap the ... menu, copy the profile link, and paste it somewhere else. If their displayed name doesn’t match the URL, they may have changed it to dodge reports.

  • Reference groups: Search Lorcana reference groups on Facebook to see if their name comes up in scam reports.

Common Red Flags When Buying

  • Seller is pressuring you to act fast.

  • Seller insists on unsafe payment methods.

  • Seller uses broken English or vague communication that feels “off.”

  • Deal seems too good to be true (e.g., a high-value misprint at a suspiciously low price). When Selling

  • Be mindful of the warning signs above and try not to replicate them.

  • Buyer Profile

    • Check reference groups for your buyer to see if they have any reports out.

  • Shipping

    • If the seller pays via a protected method (eg. Paypal Goods and Services) you should ONLY send to the address listed in Paypal. Do not change the address and ship elsewhere. If the buyer mentions the address is wrong, reverse the transaction and have them update and then re-pay.

    • Make sure you understand your risk tolerance for non-tracked packages. When in doubt, do tracking. On higher value items, add signature delivery.

When Selling

Selling also comes with its own risks. Here’s how to protect yourself:

Be Transparent

Avoid doing the things that make buyers suspicious (like hiding your profile info or pushing unsafe payments). A trustworthy seller builds a reputation over time.

Vet the Buyer

  • Just like you would with a seller, check reference groups to see if the buyer has a history of disputes.

Shipping Best Practices

  • Always ship to the address on the PayPal transaction. If the buyer says it’s wrong, cancel the payment and have them resend it with the correct address. Otherwise, you lose protection.

  • Use tracking numbers. For higher-value items, add signature confirmation. It’s worth the extra cost to avoid “item not received” claims.

  • Package securely. Protect cards with toploaders or semi-rigids, then mail in a bubble mailer to prevent damage.

Other Common Pitfalls to Avoid

  • Overpricing or underpricing: Misprints don’t have fixed values, but do some research first. If you price way too high, your listing will be ignored; too low, and you’ll leave money on the table.

  • Vague listings: Fuzzy photos or poor descriptions invite disputes. Always make the error clear in pictures and words.

  • Not knowing your risk tolerance: Some sellers are fine mailing low-value cards in a plain envelope; others prefer tracking for every sale. Decide what level of risk you’re comfortable with.

  • Ignoring community rules: Facebook groups often have strict rules about auction formats, bumping posts, or tagging. Breaking these can get you banned from the main marketplace.

  • FOMO scams: Be wary of people claiming “lots of others are interested” or “this deal won’t last.” Take a breath before sending money.

Recap

  • Misprints do not have set pricing.

  • Auctions are typically the best to do to determine market cost.

  • Utilize a template for transparency.

  • Check eBay and the Lorcana misprint group for comparisons.

  • BE SAFE ONLINE! Do not transact with someone if you don’t think its safe. Always protect your personal information.

  • When in doubt, ask others in the community for support!
